The Inspiration: A Sensory Sanctuary- A hinged 18K Gold Vermeil globe locket with a porous volcanic core, designed to be worn as an aromatherapy pendant or a transformable bead

My inspiration comes from the delicate balance of our planet and our own inner well-being. I wanted to design a piece that celebrates the beauty of nature—specifically the 'Blue Marble' we call home—while offering a practical, functional tool for personal comfort. In a busy world, we often need a reminder that we carry our own peace with us.

"The World Within” explores the idea that every journey exists both outwardly and inwardly. The hand-sculpted gold continents represent the protective shell of our environment, while the deep blue volcanic stone inside symbolises the living, breathing spirit of the individual. By reimagining this as a kinetic pendant, the globe is liberated—constantly moving and swaying to remind the wearer that life is never static.

The Practical Magic: The Scent of Grounding

"This bead is a wearable sanctuary. The 'oceans' between the gold continents are cut-out to allow maximum airflow to the porous volcanic stone inside, which acts as a natural essential oil diffuser. By adding a drop of forest pine for grounding or citrus for energy, the wearer creates a private sensory experience. As the globe dangles from a necklace or a Fantasy Ring, it gently releases the aroma, providing a subtle 'boost' to the wearer’s mood throughout the day."

The Ritual: The Hinged Locket

"To preserve the quality of the gold finish, I have designed the globe as a hinged locket. This creates a beautiful ritual for the wearer: you open the 'Earth,' remove the inner stone to apply your chosen oil, and lock it back together. The top bail (loop) ensures the locket stays securely closed while worn, making the stone a safe but accessible 'inner world'

Design & Engineering: Universal, Modular Luxury

Dual-Function Universal Core.

The Ritual: The globe is a precision-hinged locket. This creates a beautiful ritual: the wearer opens the "Earth" to remove the inner stone for re-scenting.

The Security: The 4mm universal hole passes directly through the gold shell. When threaded onto a Trollbeads bracelet or necklace, the carrier itself acts as a security pin, holding the locket hemispheres safely closed.

The Transformation: Because the core is built into the shell, the piece is truly modular. It can be worn as a full, aromatic sanctuary with the stone inside, or as a minimalist, airy gold "hollow globe" bead.

Designed to Evolve

Every design decision—from the kinetic movement of the globe to its modular construction—supports Trollbeads’ philosophy of jewellery as a living collection. The World Within is not a fixed object, but a transformable element that evolves with the wearer’s story, mood, and style.

At the core of the design is a fully integrated 4 mm universal hole, engineered directly through the gold shell (not the volcanic stone). This ensures full compatibility with Trollbeads bracelets, necklaces, and Fantasy Rings, allowing the piece to be styled interchangeably across collections.

Precision Locket Construction

The globe is constructed as a precision-hinged locket, allowing the two hemispheres to open smoothly while maintaining structural integrity when closed. When threaded onto a Trollbeads carrier, the carrier itself passes through the shell and functions as a mechanical security pin, holding the hemispheres safely closed during wear. This eliminates the need for additional clasps or locking mechanisms, preserving the purity of the form.

Transformable Function

The interior houses a smooth, undrilled volcanic stone, intentionally left intact to preserve both its tactile quality and its natural porosity for essential oils. When worn with the stone inside, the piece functions as an aromatic bead or pendant.

The stone can be fully removed, transforming the design into a lightweight, hollow gold globe bead. In this configuration, the piece functions as a classic Trollbeads bead, allowing the wearer to shift effortlessly between sensory ritual and minimalist adornment.

Material Protection & Longevity

The exterior is crafted in 18K Gold Vermeil, chosen for its warmth, richness, and alignment with Trollbeads’ luxury aesthetic. To protect the gold from the volatile compounds found in essential oils, the interior of the shell is treated with a transparent, medical-grade nano-ceramic e-coating. This invisible layer prevents tarnishing and ensures long-term durability without altering the appearance or feel of the piece.
